Say if you haul away the old stuff.
When the job is done, who takes the old stuff? One plain line on your service pages, included, extra, or up to them, saves a surprise at the end of the job.
They hired you to swap out the old water heater. Or tear out the fence. Or pull up the carpet. The job goes fine. Then there's a pile in the driveway, and one question nobody asked at the start. Is that yours or theirs?
Most service sites never say. So people guess. Some figure you take it with you. Some figure they'll be renting a trailer on Saturday. Either way, it's a surprise at the end of the job, and that's the part they remember.
What they want to know
It comes down to three small questions.
- Do you take the old stuff with you?
- Is that part of the price, or extra?
- Is there anything you won't take?
None of these are hard to answer. They just need to be written down before someone books.
Say what you actually do
If haul-away is included, say it. "We take the old unit with us and sweep up before we leave." That one line can win the job over a shop that doesn't say anything.
If it costs extra, say that too. Say if it's a flat fee, or depends on how much there is, or if dump fees get added. You don't need an exact number if it changes job to job. "Haul-away is extra, and it'll be listed in your quote" is plain and fair.
If you don't haul anything, say that. "Old materials stay on-site for you to get rid of" saves an awkward call after the work is done.
Name the things that are different
Some things cost more to take, or you may not take them at all. Old appliances, mattresses, paint cans, tires, broken concrete. If you have a rule for any of those, list the common ones.
Keep it short. A few words per item is enough. Nobody needs a policy page.
Put it where they decide
Put one line on each service page where it matters. On the water heater page, say what happens to the old tank. On the remodel page, say who handles the debris. On the cleanout page, say where it all goes.
Then make your quote say the same thing. If the site says "haul-away included" and the invoice adds a charge for it, that feels like a bait and switch, even if it was an honest mistake.
Check your own site today
Open your site on your phone. Pick the job you do most. Can you tell, in ten seconds, what happens to the old stuff and whether it costs extra?
If not, add one sentence. That's the whole fix.
