Say if you bill by the hour or by the job.
People want to know how a job will be priced before they call. One plain line on each service page tells them if you charge by the hour or by the job.
Someone finds your site. They have a leaky water heater, a messy yard, or a deck that needs stain. Before they call, they want one answer. How will this be priced?
Most service sites never say. So the visitor guesses. Some guess high and move on. Some guess low and feel tricked when the bill comes.
Two ways to charge, both fine
Some jobs make sense by the hour. Repairs with unknowns work that way. So does cleanup where nobody knows how much is behind the shed.
Some jobs make sense as one flat price. A standard install fits that. So does a lawn you mow every week.
Neither way is better. The customer just wants to know which one you use.
Why it matters before the call
An hourly rate tells people what an extra hour costs. That helps them plan.
A flat price tells people the number won't grow. That helps them relax.
If your site says nothing, they have to ask. Many won't ask. They'll call the next shop, the one that already told them.
What to put on the site
Keep it to a few plain lines on each service page.
- Say if the job is billed by the hour or by the job.
- If it's hourly, say if there's a minimum. One hour, two hours, whatever is true.
- If it's by the job, say what can change the price. Rot under the old deck boards is a good example.
- Say when they get the final number. Before you start, or after you see the job.
You don't have to post every price. A range or a "starts at" works if that's how you really quote.
Put it where they look
Put the line near the service name, not only on an FAQ page. People skim. They read the top of the page and the button.
Also put it near the quote form. That's the moment they're deciding.
