Say how far out you're booking right now.

People want to know when you can actually come. One line on your site about how far out you're booked saves a call that ends in "oh, that's too late."

Someone needs their fence fixed before a family party in two weeks. They find your site. It looks good. It says nothing about when you could get to them. So they call, wait on hold or leave a message, and find out you're booked a month out.

That call didn't help either of you. One line on the site would have answered it.

Put it where they're deciding

Right near your phone number or your quote form, add something like:

  • "Right now we're booking about two weeks out."
  • "Most jobs get scheduled within a few days."
  • "Booked through the end of the month. Call to get on the list."

Plain words. A rough number is fine. People don't need the exact date. They need to know if you're a this-week shop or a next-month shop.

It's fine to be busy

Some owners worry that saying "three weeks out" scares people off. It might scare off the person who needed it done tomorrow. That person was going to call someone else anyway, just after taking up ten minutes of your day.

The person who can wait now knows to book. And a full calendar tells them other people trust you.

Say what happens if it can't wait

If you squeeze in urgent jobs, say so. "Leak or no heat? Call and we'll try to fit you in." If you don't, that's okay too. Just don't leave them guessing.

Keep it current

This only works if it's true. A line that says "booking one week out" when you're really at five weeks is worse than saying nothing. Pick a time to check it. The first of the month is easy to remember. Change the number when it changes.

If your season swings hard, say that too. "Spring fills up fast. Book early."

What you get back

Fewer calls that end in "oh, that's too late." More calls from people who already know the timing works. And customers who feel like you were straight with them before they ever picked up the phone.

If you want a site that says when you can get there, and someone to keep that line up to date, talk with Hexacomb. You run the business. We take care of your website.

What should the site be bringing in?

New business, or one whose website went quiet. Say what you do, the towns you cover, and drop the link if you have one. I write back from Clovis, usually within a day. The first note is about your jobs, not a list of packages.
